NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course Phase II

5 hour course (approximately 6 hours total including drive to range, etc.)

​Age Requirements: 21 years old and above

Cost $80 + $20 range fee (plus cost for on-line Phase I portion)

Pre-requisite -- requires successful completion of Phase 1 NRA on-line course (see below for details)

This NRA Basis of Pistol Shooting Course Phase II reinforces the basic knowledge, skills and attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely. This course includes both classroom and range time for learning to shoot a revolver or semi-automatic pistol safely and more accurately. Students review firearm and range safety rules, fundamentals of shooting, loading, de-cocking and unloading a firearm, and maintenance.  In addition the student will shoot both practice dry fire and live real fire ammunition from bench rest and standing positions. 

To receive a Certification of Completion of this Phase II course in addition to learning and exhibiting safe handling techniques, the student will be required to shoot live fire ammunition safely, proficiently and accurately to a specified target and distance during the range portion of this class.

A Certified NRA Instructor will review the basics of safe gun handling and shooting including proper stance, grip, sight and trigger management and other important items. This is a great course for those who want to learn more about handguns and proper safety and shooting techniques.

If you are interested in obtaining your Oklahoma SDA “Concealed Carry” Handgun License, this would be a most useful course to take prior to starting that endeavor.

Most importantly, this course reinforces and teaches the safe way to handle and use a pistol.  Safety is the MOST IMPORTANT and critical skill to learn to become a confident shooter.

Course Duration: Approximately 6 hours (breaks will be scheduled periodically) starting first with 3 hours of classroom instruction then a drive to the local indoor range (generally 2A Shooting Center in Tulsa) for the live fire shooting portion of the class (range time approximately 2 hours).  Range fee is an additional $20.00.

Prerequisites: Proven ability to safely operate your gun and successful completion of NRA on-line Basics of Pistol Shooting Course. 

What you need to bring to this course:

Certificate of Completion from on-line course, NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook (provided to you from the on-line phase 1 portion of this class) ball cap, eye protection, ear protection, handgun (revolver or semi-automatic with magazines), 22 to 45 caliber is allowed. 

Bring at least 200 rounds of ammunition (must be factory ammo – no reloads).

Bring a bag lunch.  Water / coffee are provided during the classroom instruction at Patrick Firearms facility.

When bringing your gun to Patrick Firearms – PLEASE HAVE IT UNLOADED, and it its’ case or carrying bag with no ammunition in the gun or magazine and all ammunition in the box.

Prior to starting the course the student will be required to sign a Waiver & Release of Liability form.  Student must be a US citizen and must be legally able to own a pistol.

If so desired, after the classroom course completion the NRA Instructor can help advise you on the best types of guns to own to meet your requirements.  You will get an opportunity to see real guns (with direct supervision from the NRA Instructor) including both revolvers and semi-automatic pistols in a variety of calibers and sizes.  This will help you understand the differences and help you choose the best gun for your needs.  NO REAL AMMUNITION WILL BE AVAILABLE OR SHOWN DURING THIS SESSION.
